project one continued...

Ready for a quick sand and then what colour to choose. Antique white is my first choice. Would like to keep it simple so it will blend in well with my home. I like interior layering. It
leaves room to add more later. Next project will be a mural what crazy fun! I didnt use the heat gun on the small parts of the frame, the glass would of shattered, they'll need a ligt sand though. At the moment just playing around with photo choice and layout. Family ones of kids, hubby and I. Also mounting and backing board to hold it all together. Still experimenting.

Project one

  1. I'm so excited, I've always wanted to convert a set of old window frames into a rustic yet stylish picture frame. Been looking for awhile on ebay with no luck, until my husband of all people was driving down a usual road home. When he spotted two sets of old style windows you only see on the old Queenslanders homes, which happened to be in a spot which invited the old saying 'first come first served'. No procrastination there!! So far I've stripped the paint off with a heat gun, generously lent to me by our good neighbour. Its trial and error so no formal instructions yet. Sanding was an option too but this paint was quite thickly layed. Stripping just the front as the back will not be seen and I couldnt be bothered smelling warm paint again. To the left are these simple but gorgeous handles which will be added to still give the effect of windows. Great way to open up a gloomy corner. The top picture is actually the other set of frames. I forgot to take a before picture of the frames Im working on at the moment. So they looked similar except size is a little smaller here.

If anyone has any ideas or have happily completed this kind of project I would love to hear your experience and obstacles. I need some advice on choosing colour and mounting etc. I think I'm looking too closely so, I'll just walk away now. FRUSTRATING..... any fresh ideas please comment!!
